小年Little New Year ，民间有祭灶的习俗。
古人奉灶神为督查人间善恶之神，人们一年的德行和过错都会被灶神看在眼里，每年灶神都要返回天庭向玉帝汇报情况。
为了让灶神“上天言好事，回宫降吉祥”，家家户户都要陈列酒食瓜果作为祭品，其中必不可少的就是糖瓜 malt sugarcandies，糖瓜能把灶神的牙齿黏住，让他不能乱说话。

小年，是民间掸尘的日子。
这天要起个大早，扫房擦窗，洗衣拖地，刷锅涮瓢，把家里打扫得干干净净。人们相信，彻底清扫 a thorough cleanse可以摆脱贫穷和霉运，迎来一个繁荣的新年。
“尘” dust与“陈” the old谐音，掸尘又指与陈旧之事挥别。小年这天，跟旧岁中的所有不快道个别，以良好的心态开启新的一年。

小年一到，不仅家里要焕然一新，人也要沐浴、理发，把自己收拾干净利落。这一习俗寓意褪去过去一年的晦气，以崭新的面貌开启新一年。

贴窗花
小年一到，各种窗花悄悄登场。
人们取下前一年的窗花，贴上新的窗花、年画 New Year's posters 和各种装饰品。燕穿桃柳、金童牧牛、鹿鹤桐椿、犀牛望月……这些窗花形象听起来就很美，更不用说剪出样子，栩栩如生地呈现出来。
在明净的窗户上贴上崭新的窗花与装饰品，春节的气息也就扑面而来了。
